About the studio
Burning Rascal began as margin scribbles — the kind that fill the edge of a notebook while the mind wanders. Over time, those scribbles became a discipline: tangle strings, repeating motifs, and abstract compositions built one deliberate stroke at a time.
Every piece starts on paper with pen and ink, no pencil sketch, no undo. The zentangle method keeps the hand honest; the doodle instinct keeps it loose; the abstract work is where the two meet — structure and improvisation on the same page.

How a piece comes together

Spark
A mood, a word, or a stray doodle from the margins sets the starting point — no fixed plan yet.
The string
A loose guiding line divides the page into sections — the "string" that every tangle pattern will live inside.
Tangle it
Each section fills with a repeating pattern — curls, crosshatch, dots, or scallops — one deliberate stroke at a time.
Shade & finish
Shading adds depth to the linework, then the piece is signed, scanned, and added to the collection.
